Malek Shrine is located in Sonqor and Kolyai, a kilometer away from the city center, on a hill. The shrine has an octagonal structure and a brick dome. The upper part is made of bricks and the basement is made of carved stones. In the past, local people mistakenly attributed this shrine to Malek-e Ashtar, a famous commander of Imam Ali. It is also stated that this shrine is the burial place of one of the great landlords of Sanandaj during ancient times. In recent years, a hole that was discovered in this shrine attracted attention, and after investigation, it was found that there is a brick vault with a band underneath it. Twenty-five simple wooden coffins were placed on top of each other in this place containing bodies according to Islamic tradition, which date back to a period close to the construction of the shrine. Research indicates that the style of the building is attributed to the Timurid era as eight more coffins from that time have been discovered in recent years.
