Sari Gol National Park and Protected Area is located in the northeastern province of North Khorasan, east of the city of Esfarayen. The minimum distance from the nearest city, that is Esfarayen, is about eight kilometers. With 200 species of plants, numerous animals, and birds, this area is considered to be one of the important habitats of Iran. Sari Gol is a region with diverse mountainous habitats, moderate hills, and low-lying plains. Compared to mountainous areas, this region has a relatively warmer climate, although the northern areas have cold winters, with six months of snow cover per year. On September 20, 1974, Sari Gol was designated as a protected area under the protection of the Environmental Protection Organization. Sari Gol National Park and Protected Area have more than 200 species of plants, which is relatively desirable in terms of plant diversity. The majority of plants in the region are flowering species, and one of the characteristic surviving species in this area is the wild pistachio tree, which is scattered at elevations of approximately 1600 meters and above throughout the region.
