The plain desert of the central plateau of Iran in the extreme eastern part of Isfahan province, Khour and Biabanak is a safe but still unknown and mysterious place that attracts the eyes of nature lovers from all around Iran. One can watch the colorless fluid sands for many hours in this desert. Here the soil is the indicator of safety and silence and the sky is the symbol of fiction. No wonder that many great poets have been born and raised in this place.

Khour means sun and it was the name of the eleventh day of each month in ancient Iran that means the protector angel of sun and what is more proper than this name? Biabanak is also an old and large part of Kavir Desert that has been famous for many years because of its wonders. The most famous name in this vast desert is the villages of Mesr, Farahzad and the surrounding regions.

One of the widest salt lakes of Iran, Khour Salt Lake, is located in this place. A large part of the central and southern parts of the central Kavir of Iran is placed inside this huge lake. The depth of salt accumulated inside the lake is very low, bout 5 to 10 centimeters. In rainy seasons, a combination of red clay and salt and in dry seasons, a coverage of white salt covers the surface of this lake.

Sargardani Longitudinal Sand Dunes near Kavir-e Mesr village is another wonder in this desert. It constitutes of the longitudinal liquid sands that have been extended in parallel and made unique appearances in the heart of the desert.

The tourism region of Amir Abad with Gaz bushes and watermelon fields of Abu Jahl is the other tourism attraction of Khour and Biabanak desert.

Takht-e Arous, Tal-e Khakestar, Takht-e Abbasi and Takht-e Mohammad Rezai are other regions for which the tourists travel to this famous desert. Geographically, Takht means those parts of the desert that are higher than the surrounding areas and their highest part forms a flat space like a bed so that one can watch the surrounding landscapes through standing on the top of it.

Selkenoon Chal in Khour and Biabanak is a hole surrounded by the beautiful sandy hills with a small lagoon in the center.

Mesr canebrake, Chilkondeh Hill, Tabaqeh Kavir and Rig Kalleh are other interesting parts in this region.

You cannot finish your travel to this desert without enjoying the calm but stellar sky.
