The first Jama Mosque of Tabriz is believed to have been built in the early Islamic period. The mosque is mentioned in the book "Marzbān-nāmeh," which indicates the glory and prosperity of Tabriz specifically from 607-622 AH, when Özbeg ibn Muhammad ibn Eldiguz ruled there.  Hajj Talib Khan, the son of Hajj E-haq Khan Tabrizi, referred to this mosque as "the great Jama Mosque" in the endowment deed of Talebiyeh School in 1087 AH. The mosque is about 62 meters long in the center of which there is a tall and large dome with durable and resistant bases. The inscriptions on the mosque include Shah Tahmasb's decree from 9721 AH, a description of the Qajar era repairs, and the endowments of the school from 1106 AH. Today, the people refer to the mosque as Jama Mosque. A part of its courtyard has been designated as a library and rooms for religious students. It is currently one of the centers of religious studies and is considered one of the religious landmarks of the city of Tabriz.
