With 6850 meters length, Kharbas Cave is the largest salt cave in the world. Actually, it is the result of transforming some part of Qeshm mountains into salt mountains or caves, through accumulation and sedimentation of the existing salt in the sea water inside deep faults. Namakdan Mountain located in the west of the island is also of the same kind. Kharbas Cave is one of the tourism attractions of Qeshm city and one of the amazing sites in Hormozgan province. This cave is placed fifteen kilometers before the city, on the right side of the road. Some architectural remains are visible in the heart of the heights of this region which, according to some researchers, are belonged to a Mithraism or Anahita temple. It dates back to Median period. Kharbas caves include four interconnected caves on the hillsides of a mountain overlooking the southern bank of the island. They are visible on the heights of 20 t0 30 meters. Being considered as the ancient geological phenomena, these caves along with other phenomena and mountains and also the island itself are the continuation of the wrinkles in Zagros Mountain Range which were unearthed thousands of years ago. Through their inner halls, several corridors and rooms in 4 * 5.5 square meters, springs, northward and southward holes, these caves indicate the existence of ancient people in this island. Needless to say, the human interference and manipulations for different reasons have extremely changed the appearance of these caves and their walls.
