Kurangun is the name of an ancient petroglyph placed close to the city of Rostam, ten kilometers northwest of Fahlian, around the village of Sehtolan, near Nourabad Mamasani and in the middle of the road of Behbahan to Shiraz. This petroglyph has been carved on Kurangun Mountain, at the height of about 100 meters, in front of Fahlian River, and it is named Fahliun in the local dialect.

Kurangun Petroglyph was firstly discovered by Baron Max von Oppenheim in 1300 AH and then, in 1303 AH, studied by the German archaeologist, Ernst Herzfeld. It is the memorial of ancient Elam civilization, backing to nearly five thousand years ago. It is supposed to has been built by the order of an Elamite king. The king who ruled Elam from the seventh to the third century BC. The name of Elam was appeared in the cuneiform as Haltamati which means the land of the God.

The motif of Kurangun Petroglyph shows two worshiping human figures, in the middle of the rock. There are seventy-two small and large other figures standing around them which have been partly eroded over time.

On the other hand, some believe that they are Humban, or the man of the God, and Kiririsha, or the mother of the gods. Although, some experts suppose that one of these gods are the same as Inshushinak, the great and national god of Elam and the other is king.

It is said that these three figures, Humban, Kiririsha and Inshushinak, form altogether the deity triangle of Elam. Each figure, in the Kurangun Petroglyph hold a snake in their hand, sitting down on a thrown made of a curled-up snake. These two deities worn a horned cap and some others standing on two sides of them are worshipping the god. In this row of the figures, women, dressed in a longer clothing, are faced left and men faced right. The snake and specially two snakes are a common symbol in the ancient discoveries of Elam. It symbolizes the fertility, life and birth. The horned cap is also the symbol of deities among Sumerian people.
