Ovan Lake is placed on the hillsides of Alborz Mountain Range, in the heart of Alamut mountains. 

There is a lake on the downhill Khashchal mountain, next to Shahroud valley, in the lands of Noyzer Shah, Ilan Sepid and Qaladoosh, and the land of plane trees, named Zar Abad and Aku Jan georg and Shah Kuh tomb, which is known as Ovan. 

Ovan Lake is located seventy-five kilometers after the city of Qazvin. Referred to the place of water accumulation, Ovan is placed on an approximately 2000-meter height. The lake spreads in an area of about seven hectares. It is nearly seven-meter deep, originating from the underground springs. 

It is said that all sides of the land around the lake is totally covered by the snow during winters and a layer of ice is formed over the water of the lake. 

Animals of this area include species like wild goat, brown, fox, wolf, Jackal, eagle, the wild boar, falcon, owl, partridge, tthe common cuckoo, woodpeckers, rollers, jay, old world sparrows. There are some turtles and crab living by the water. In addition, fishes like rainbow trout, common carp and pikes live inside the water. 

Among the surronding plants in this area, we can refer to willow, plane, populus nigra, apple, sour cherry, cherry, Russian olive, hazelnut and walnut, Astragalus, spear thistle, liquorice and gramineae. plants like common reed, coontail inside the water. 

There are some historic attractions around the Ovan Lake; among which we can mention to shams kelaye, Ovan Waterfall, Zar Abab Village with an amazing plane tree, the forest park of Barajin, ecotourism house of Zar Abad and several Qazvin gardens.
