At the beginning of the old Asadabad market, there is a large water storage known as Sheikh Ali Khan Water Storage, located in a place called Darb-e Caravanserai. The building dates back to the Safavid era and is a rectangular water tank measuring 25 meters in length, 20 meters in width, and 6 meters in depth. The water storage dome is at the same level as the old market floor. eighteen four-meter stairs have been stretched from the old market floor to the foot of a four-sided courtyard with a cross-vaulted dome to collect water. The length of the steps varies from 2.5 meters to 4meters from bottom to top, and they are covered with a brick-made vault. There used to be a marble stone inscription on the left wall of the water storage hallway that indicated the building's repair date by a person named "Gholam Qarami" in 1173 AH.

Architecture of the building

This building is located in a neighborhood of the same name in Asadabad, which was actually the center of a neighborhood in the center of the city in the past. According to the locals, it was known as the Caravanserai district in the past, named after an old caravanserai that was later destroyed. The Caravanserai area was approximately 50 to 100 meters from the water storage site. The city's central mosque, bathhouse, and market are also located in this neighborhood, and only the traditional bathhouse has preserved its form and historical space. In the past, many carpet weavers also lived in this neighborhood, and they continued to live in the place and the center of Asadabad until later periods. The required water for the reservoir was supplied from a branch of a Qanat and a flowing water source called Abdeh Shahr Ab, which was known for its water supply.
