Lut desert is one of the greatest tourism attractions in our country. A vast region that was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List as the first natural attraction of Iran. It embraces a collection of spectacular regions; from Kaluts and Nabkhas to Gandom Beryan and spider canyon, however, Rig-e Yalan (meaning the huge erg) is one of the most wonderful areas.

Rig-e Yalan is a collection of very high sandhills located in the east of Kerman province, the northwest of Sistan and Baluchestan province and the south of South Khorasan province. It expands about 150 kilometers from north to south, and 70 kilometers from east to west. The height of Rig-e Yalan reaches 550 kilometers in the western margin and about 830 kilometers in the eastern margins.

Contrary to the public perception, Rig-e Yalan is not free of vegetation but the plant species are observed in some parts sporadically. It is also interesting that various animal species live in this region of Lut desert, too. Species like sand cat and different reptiles and birds like magpie and vulture.

To travel to Rig-e Yalan needs a professional group who are familiar with the region because there is no city or village inside the desert and the region is highly vast. The only way to visit is using the camel or equipped sport utility vehicles. You have to take all necessary items like water, oil etc. undoubtedly, watching the glory and greatness of the desert of Lut is worthy despite these difficulties.

The best time to travel to Rig-e Yalan is autumn and winter; Lut desert is not only one of the hottest points of Iran in summers, but also it is considered to be one of the warmest points of the earth according to the NASA satellite data.

Although Rig-e Yalan is a desert and arid region, it has highly cold nights. Therefore, taking warm clothes and sleeping bag is of the necessities for this trip. The only way to stay in this region is camping that makes an adventurous trip for you.
