Khorheh is an ancient land that is located in the village of the same name near the northeast of Mahalat city in Markazi province. Khorheh district has 13 villages. It is situated inside the valley of Haftad Qolleh and right between two mountains Lorakh Gav and Khorzin. Originating from Tayqan mountains, Qomrud water flows through this valley and near the village.
The ancient land of Khorheh reaches the Haftad Qolleh mountains from the north and the Yakhchal mountains, from the south. There are ruins of a fire temple, a summerhouse, a fort and a cemetery in this area, spreading in an area of nearly 3500 meters, in the quadrangle and in three parts. It dates back to the Seleucid, Parthian and Sassanid periods.
The first reconstruction of this historical place was done in 1335 AH. Two thin columns with the height of six meters, made of travertine stone, in Greek-style Ionic capitals, have been found in this area which are related to the Seleucid and Parthian periods. The Seleucid columns are made of six stone pieces cut, standing on top of each other, and there is a square-form hole on the axis of each piece in order for the wooden bar to put into.
Several interconnected rooms with corridors and stairs have been left from this ancient structure. Also, a staircase on the west side of the building leads to the roof. There was also a columned porch with twelve columns, six columns in each side. It is estimated that the height of the roof had been nine meters from which only two columns remained. It also should be mentioned that the acid rain erodes the ancient stones and a proper protection is needed in order to prevent this part of the building from the erosion process. A room with an oven has been found in the excavations. Among other archaeological finds, we can mention different potteries, clay burners, jars with handle, cosmetic stones, and seven human skeletons. It is also necessary to mention a stone inscription from the Seljuk period, currently located in Nimvar, in the southwest of Khorheh village, next to Qamrud which passes by the village.
Khorheh includes a variety of spectacular places which are commonly visited by tourists. Among them, we can mention the Shah Bolbol cave, placed among the mountains of Khorheh, the historical cave of Lorakh Gav, Vazvan spring or Shureh spring, and Imamzadeh Haft Ivan. Carpets, rugs and woolen socks are the main handicrafts of Khorheh. Among the foods which are common in Khorheh, we can mention Shaheh, fatir, and milky breads, barley Ash, Bibi Seshanbeh Ash, Dough, Tarkhineh Shir (Milk), Abgousht, Kalejoush, Eshkeneh, celery stew, thistle stew, and okra.
