From Ravar to Birjand in the Margin of Dasht-e Lut

From Ravar to Birjand in the Margin of Dasht-e Lut

Zarand, Ravar, Nayband, Birjand

Day 1

In the extreme northern part of Dasht-e Lut, where is considered to be the border of Lut and Dasht-e Kavir and in the borderline between Kerman, Yazd and South Khorasan provinces, a road has been extended along the desert that is terrible and faraway at first glance on the map.

The road that links Ravar to Tabas is one of the most beautiful routes of Iran, full of geological attractions so that folding of the ground surface in this region is wonderful.

If you are in Kerman or any other city in Iran, you have to reach Zarand and proceed to Dashtkhak in order to go to Ravar. The Saffron Harvest Festival is held in Dashtkhak of Zarand every year. If you can go to there in time of the festival your trip will be more enjoyable.

Ravar is a perfect desert city. There is a large sculpture of a bicycle, a pomegranate and three sculptures of cheetah on the entrance square of the city, because the region is one of the main habitats of Asian Cheetahs in Iran; by attempts of NGOs, people are now aware about the importance of cheetah and protect it as a lasting heritage.

Ravar ice house is placed in the entrance of the city next to Gas Station in which the Ethnography Museum has been established. Buy everything you need from here, because it is the last place you can find your required items, there is no city in about 300 kilometers further.

Passing through Ravar and the pistachio gardens, an extremely beautiful geological attraction appears as a layered and blue mountain. The length of this wall is several kilometers so that it is hardly placed in one frame to take a photo. The next city is Darband that should be passed. After that another erosion appears in front of you in form of a folding, layered and colorful mountain.

Enter the margin of Dasht-e Lut approximately 40 kilometers after Ravar to Nayband and the road becomes foamy. The first sign of the Department of Environment that is the indicator of Naybandan wildlife refuge shows you are entering the largest wildlife refuge of Iran.

There are some cisterns with certain distance between them along the route that are mostly new or the old ones that have been reconstructed and provided passengers with resorts.

You can see the road directly to tens of kilometers. The mirage is really intangible here as if the cars are moving in the reflection of water. You will reach Dig-e Rostam hot water spring with two separated parts for men and women in a natural space under the palm trees. The men pool is larger than the other. It is a good place for relaxation and to relieve joint pains.

Dig-e Rostam is extremely famous in this region and people come here in the evenings and holidays and they believe in its health benefits.

After Dig-e Rostam you will reach the beautiful staircase village of Nayband in the heart of Kavir. Alleyways are paved. In spite of many attempts to beautify and maintain the old buildings, the existence of electricity wires irregularly next to the buildings is extremely disturbing.

A part of old buildings has been restored and Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization is now moving people from the old texture to the new-built settlement at the bottom of the village.

There is a tower on top of the village overlooking the neighboring grounds. There are citrus gardens and palm trees of Nayband and some springs from which the drinking water of people is supplied, on the other side. A little further away there is a pool full of water that is used by villagers for washing.

Stay night in one of the ecotourism houses of Nayband or Zardgah village next to Nayband and enjoy the peace of Kavir.

Day 2

Leave Nayband for the neighboring cities after visiting it. Birjand with 260 kilometers distance and Tabas with 210 kilometers distance are the nearest cities to Nayband, however, our next destination is Birjand. Passing through Zenowghan, turn east in the three ways of Arab Abad. The next destination is Khusf close to Birjand. Ghale Rostam and the mausoleum of Ibn Hesam Khusfi are the most famous historical monuments remained here in Khusf. However, what has made Khusf more attractive is the countryside neighboring villages such as Givshad, Ark, Mazhan and Gol.
