Mohammad Taqi Khaan Baqi was one of the rulers in Yazd who governed this region in 52 years, from the late Afsharid to the early Qajar period; the complex pf Khaan and Dowalt Abad Garden of Yazd were built in his time.

Khaan complex includes bazar, school and bathhouse all located in Qiyam street, one of the old districts of Yazd. There are three ways originated from Khaan square; the first route is led to the school, the second one to the bazar and the third one to the bathhouse. At the end of Khaan square (southwestern side) you reach an alley that its left side is placed in the old and residential texture of Khaan bathhouse – its other name is Noor bathhouse. It has a beep entrance, a long corridor and thick stairs. In this way you enter the bathhouse- its Sarbineh.

This bathhouse was built in 1212 AH and 30 years later in 1242 AH was restored and reconstructed. During this operation, some decorations like the paintings of alcove were added.

The bathhouse is 1170 square meter area and 900 square meter built-up area including two large and small baths; the small one that was dedicated to the women has been changed entirely as the result of repeated repairs and the original form is hardly recognizable. This bathhouse includes Sarbineh, Khazineh and hothouse, like other baths, but in smaller size.

In addition to the furnace, the large part that is the main bathhouse includes a big Sarbineh with four thick columns in which the light is provided through an octagonal space in the ceiling. Two stands in Sarbineh are bigger than the other ones that are named alcove.

Sarbineh usually has some stands for sitting down, removing clothes and getting ready for bathroom. After passing a long way named Miyandar you will enter hothouse. At the end of hothouse there is Khazineh that was built over the furnace to keep the water warm.

Unlike other baths, Khaan bathhouse was built of lime, stone and brick in order to be resistant to the humidity and chemicals. Also, in order to keep the heat of the bath it was built lower than the surrounding buildings and paths. Therefore, you have to pass a deep corridor with thick stairs to enter the building.

In the past, baths were not only the place of bathe but also they are the place of public meetings, private conversations and exchange of information. Most of the important news was also published from this place!

Although Khaan bathhouse has been converted into a traditional restaurant in 1372 SH, it is still the place of private and public meetings. A part of Sarbineh has been decorated by Traditional Yazd carpets and bolsters and the other part furnished by tables and chairs.

Generally, Khaan bathhouse has no specific decoration and there are only some paintings inspired by Shah Nameh in alcove and Sarbineh. This building was inscribed on the list of Iran National Heritages with No. 2406.
