Meshginshahr in a mountainous region is located in 25 km of Sabalan Mountain, the largest and most famous extinct volcano of Iran, at the height of 1830 meters above the sea level.

This city is co-border with Azerbaijan from the north and the northeast and Moqan plain from the northwest. Meshginshahr climatic conditions are partly cold and semi desert. Meshginshahr consists of four districts naming as ”Razi”, ”Moradlu”, ”Markazi”, ”Lahourd”, ”Qasabe”, 6 cities and 12 rural districts.

This city is the biggest one after Ardabil in this province. Meshginshahr is one of the most important cities in this region due to a beautiful nature and cool weather by placing on the hillside of Sabalan, mineral waters with aspects of treatment, various historical and ancient sites and holy places.

Meshginshahr economy is depended on agriculture, gardening, livestock and beekeeping.

Mehsginshahr industry is divided into Machine industries and handicrafts such as loom weaving, rug weaving (export), Glim Bafi, Jajim Bafi and also pottery.

This city is the place of Shahsavan nomads their colorful tents create a beautiful landscape in summer. The people of Meshginshahr speak in Turki-e Azarbaijani.

The residents of this city are Muslims and followers of Shia.
