Azerbaijan Museum includes a rich and prolific collection of artifacts and works that have been discovered through archeological researches, as well as historical discoveries from different parts of Iran. This collection is the largest archeological collection of northwest and second archeology museum of Iran.

This museum was located close to Blue Mosque and was built in 1336 SH. However, the idea of building this mosque goes back to many years ago in 1360 SH. It was back then that the necessity for a center for the protection of artifacts was understood when an exhibition of ancient coins was held at the Tarbiat Public Library of Tabriz.

Azerbaijan Museum has four exhibits. The offices, management, specialized laboratory and restoration office, treasury as well as the library are other parts of this museum.

The ground level of the museum has been dedicated to the exhibition of historical artifacts and discoveries of archeological researches that relate to the prehistoric era. They include stone and bone objects. The oldest artifact that is kept in this section is a small pottery that was excavated during an expedition in Tapeh Esmaeil Abad and belongs to fifth millennium B.C. In addition to these potteries, Rythons, which are utensils made in the form of the body of animals, can be seen.

The first level has three different exhibits. One belongs to the Islamic era that has works from first to fourth centuries AH. One of the objects that attract the attention of the visitors is code locks. The exhibit of coins and ancient cylinders and finally the specialized library that has in its collection valuable historical, art and archeological books are other parts of the museum.

One of the most attractive exhibits of the museum is located in its underground. It shows some of the artworks of Ahad Hosseini, the contemporary artist. This collection of sculptures expresses different social concepts of human society, the issues that a man of the twenty-first century is facing, and sentiments and feelings of people, who are in trouble or suffering.

A new part of the museum is also located in its underground and is dedicated to historical stone reliefs. There are in it reliefs of human figures, kinds of tombstones, stones with inscriptions, stone rams and different kinds of sculpture made of stone.
